Wow! I tend towards the very hyped, cupcake shops everybody has heard of in Georgetown, so I had never tried this place. Was spending a weekend in Old Town, so tried this place on a whim as my sis and I wanted something a little sweet to go with the coffee we had just gotten from a few doors down. Ahhmazzingggg cupcakes! We got red velvet, strawberry, and vanilla bean. All were fantastic. Strawberry had actual strawberries in it, red velvet was nice and fluffly and tasted how red velvet should taste (so many places just make chocolate cake with food coloring ..). Frosting was perfection, just sweet enough without being insanely sweet. Give them a try!
The cupcakes deserve a 4.5 rating- they are really good. Fluffy and moist, and not overpoweringly sweet. I love love the Guinness Chocolate and the red velvet ones, and all others I've had. The 3 is because the service is lacking. Every time I go in I feel like I am bothering them and they never smile or are welcoming.Last time I went in it was later on a Sunday night and I asked if they had a dozen. The girl said "we have what's here so we can make a selection for you" and proceeded to give me a few of each of the 5 flavors left. The other girl who rang me out gave me the total, took my card, had me sign. Only when I asked for the receipt did she explain that there was an extra charge for specialty cupcakes- Guinness and Pumpkin Spice(?) The charge was small enough but that would have been nice to know before I asked for the receipt. It felt like I wouldn't have been told if I didn't ask for it.
Some of the best cupcakes I've ever had! Great variety of flavors and all really delicious. The cake is dense and rich, and not overly sweet. Frosting is more fluffy and whipped cream-y than buttery, which keeps them from feeling too heavy. The cupcakes look wonderful, but don't sacrifice flavor for presentation.
