Brilliant immersion into the 18-19th century life. Great tour, worth a visit if you're in Alexandria.
I would like to point out first off that I didnt eat inside this tavern Im leaving this because I took a walking tour with a classroom and as part of the tour we stopped outside this tavern for the spooky story. The story that our guide told paled in comparison to the fall risk potential of leaving this restaurant in the dark . I helped along with my friend and elderly couple exiting the building after their meal and was terrified they were going to trip and break a bone. I did see on this stair way it says handicap entrance with an arrow . What this sign doesnt help is that older people dont always look up and see that , they were focused on each little step and never paid attention . They were also on a large tour bus that prevented them from parking and entering the other entrance. Two more groups exited while I watched and prayed no one else fell out.
Visited on free Museum Weekend, certain museums offer no fee admission, took the guided tour which covered all interior levels. You can take the tour on your own as well. After the guided tour you can go back on your own for more in depth research if you desire.
We all ordered different items and ALL were delicious. ..fried cod, cheeseburger and Reuben. The Reuben was the best we'd ever had. Thick slices of corned beef, the cod was crispy and firm and the cheeseburger was huge and outstanding. Definitely recommend.
A tavern with an amazing pact on the Revolutionary War. Most, if not all of the Founding Fathers visited this tavern and ,actually, colluded and conspired here to plan the American Revolution. I think a scene in Hamilton actually occurred at this tavern and museum. Did not eat there but have recipes actually prepared by George Washington are available. Self- guided tours, limited guided tours.
